Event Details

Presented by Lisa Dittbenner, OTR/L, this beginning level workshop will utilize lecture, lab, and case examples to take participants through the process of assessment and intervention for feeding dysfunction in the pediatric population. There will be an emphasis on the sensory and motor issues encountered during mealtime in young children with neuromuscular disorders.

The course will include:
•Typical eating development and function
•Common eating problems
•Assessment
•Intervention
•Practice labs
•Application through case example discussion.

Learning Objectives:
1. State the oral motor skills needed to safely manage each food texture.
2. State one method of assessment for eating dysfunction.
3. Demonstrate one method each for providing postural and manual support during mealtime.
4. Describe one strategy each for addressing sensory hyperreactivity and hyporeactivity.
5. Demonstrate at least one method to manage each of the common oral motor issues that interfere with eating.
6. Apply intervention strategies to case studies.
