ARCHITECTURAL DISCIPLINE LUNCH hosted by PROGRESSIVE AE Sept 5, 12:00 – 1:00 – Main Conf. Rm. - RSVP required. Seating LimitedAn AIA Grand Valley Outreach to Architects, Students, AIA Associates, General members and Non-members from any firm. Lunch provided by AIAGV - 1CEU WHAT GOOD IS AIA, AND WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME?  As reported by an AIAGV Board Member:“I just had lunch with an architect who is not an AIA member, even though his company would pay 100% of the fees.  His question of “what do I get for $600.00?” is echoed by many. And unfortunately the answer to that question is elusive at best.  I told him of the upcoming Hugh Newell Jacobson, FAIA lecture and his response was that while that sounds interesting (and he would just pay the non-member rate to attend) that it is nothing more than the “rah rah, pat each other on the back, kind of scenario that has permeated the AIA for years – just like the glossy magazine that comes with membership.” “ Then there is:“As far as membership goes, I’ve always felt that you get out of an organization what you put into it.  If you want to pay the $600 bucks a year and not do more, then you really aren’t getting any value out of it.  My networking with others in the state and national level folks is well worth the $600 alone.  I’ve made a lot of friends across the state and across the nation.  If, God forbid, I ever found myself out of a job, I could make about a hundred phone calls and be back in work the next day.  That alone is worth the price of admission”. Nate Gillette, AIA, chapter president. Bazzani Associates Please join us to share and dialogue about what’s going on at the local, state and national levels of the American Institute of Architects, and why it can be of value. Presented by:Nate Gillette (P), Mark Miller (VP/PE), Bob Daverman (Mich. Director), Jason Carpenter (YAIF Director), Jeff VandenBosch (Public Relations Director)
