Commemorate, Celebrate, Commit: Marketing 100 Years of Canadian Naval Service

NOTE: Early registration deadline is June 17, 2010.

Victoria is buzzing with events celebrating the Canadian Navy’s centennial. The  slogan “Commemorate, Celebrate, Commit” reflects the desire to honour the past, celebrate the Navy’s achievements and recognize its service and obligation to the nation.

Commander Tony deRosenroll and a team of naval and civilian personnel have been planning and executing numerous projects designed to “bring the Navy to Canadians.” Following lunch in the elegant Wardroom, Commander deRosenroll will share the marketing plans and tactics used. After his presentation, enjoy an optional tour of the dockyard.

Short on sales and & marketing experience, Commander deRosenroll’s centennial project duties have forced him out of his comfort zone and into the realms of corporate sponsorship, public partnership, media relations and cooperation with municipal, provincial, and federal government agencies.

The largest event will be the International Fleet Review, scheduled for mid-June. More than 8,000 sailors representing Canada, the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and France will be in Victoria for a spectacular program featuring parades, fireworks, sports, aircraft/parachute displays and a rock concert.

The son of a naval officer, Tony deRosenroll has served in the Navy for 32 years. A mechanical engineering graduate of the Canadian Military College system, he served at sea as Engineering Officer of HMC ships Annapolis, Terra Nova and Vancouver, and as Fleet Technical Officer in the Arabian Gulf during Operation Apollo.

NOTE: Registration closes June 17 due to allow for security clearances. Those participating in the tour must wear closed-toe walking shoes.
