ArtSpan is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to building connections within San Francisco's visual arts community and between that community and the general public. ArtSpan focuses on the following programs:

San Francisco Open Studios
In 1975, a small group of enterprising artists who wanted to make artwork accessible to the public founded San Francisco Open Studios. Through this program, artists around San Francisco open their studios to the public during the four weekends of October. The program gives both emerging and more established San Francisco artists the opportunity to invite the public into their workspaces, sell artwork, build mailing lists and gain exposure. Open Studios is also a unique and fun way for the public to meet artists, see where artwork is created, explore San Francisco's diverse neighborhoods and build collections.

Art for Inner City Youth
Art for Inner City Youth (AICY) helps students enjoy art by making and discussing art with professional artists. The program gives artists experience working with youth and publicizes their ability to work with schools and community groups.

Make Your Art Your Business Workshop Series
Each year, ArtSpan produces a series of technical assistance workshops for artists that focus on professional development. The workshops are free to SF Open Studios artists.

Selections
Every other spring, twenty Open Studios artists are featured in ArtSpan1s prestigious Selections Exhibition. A professional panel of curators, gallery owners and academics jury artwork for the exhibition. Over the years, this exhibition has given many San Francisco Open Studios artists their first experiences in a professionally curated art exhibition.

sf open studios: the guide
This free magazine (ISSN 1534-8210) is distributed around the Bay Area and functions as both a user-friendly guide to San Francisco Open Studios and a year-round resource. This magazine serves art collectors, art dealers, restaurant owners, interior designers and other enthusiasts who want to contact artists directly. The magazine includes artwork and contact information for over 800 San Francisco artists and articles on art collecting.
