The Bronx Health Link and National Advocates for Pregnant Women are co-sponsoring a FREE forum on “Drug Use, Pregnancy and Parenting: What the Research and Experts Have to Say” on Thursday, June 3. This event is both for health/human service providers and consumers.  Intervention to protect children when their parents are drug users is an important area of child welfare. However, the research and scientific knowledge about the subject does not always match what is available in the popular press or what is easily accessible to people working in the child welfare and related fields. Moreover, the research on this matter is constantly developing.

Come hear from  leading health care providers and other experts discuss evidence-based information about the effects of prenatal exposure to drugs, drug treatment that works for families, the extent to which evidence of drug use provides information about parenting ability, as well as discussion of the role of scientific experts and the legal and ethical principles in cases involving issues of drug use, drug testing, pregnancy and parenting. The speakers will help distinguish myth from fact, evidence-based information from media hype and provide meaningful tools for improved advocacy, representation, care and treatment.

No matter what kind of work you do or practice you have, this event will challenge your assumptions, identify valuable resources, and generate hope about families where drug use is an issue.

Continuing Education Credits in the areas: CASAC will be offered.
