Event Details
As you are probably aware, United Way for Southeastern Michigan has developed a new business model – the Agenda for Change – focused on providing more individuals and families across the region the resources necessary to maintain stability and build brighter futures. The Agenda is being implemented in phases and will be fully rolled out in July 2008.

Along with launching a new business plan, we are also introducing a fresh approach to handling Speakers Bureau requests. This year, United Way staff will fill speaker and exhibit requests in a manner that best supports our work in the areas that make up the Agenda for Change -- educational preparedness, financial stability and basic needs. Designated speakers for the 2007 campaign will be trained appropriately to ensure the accurate and consistent dissemination of information regarding the Agenda.

During the 2006 Torch Drive campaign, United Way member agencies, with limited available resources, were able to help fulfill over 700 speaker and exhibit requests.  In order to accommodate similar volume under like circumstances this year, United Way is employing the use of select Impact Speakers.  Our group of trained Impact Speakers will be well versed on the Agenda for Change, and able to effectively articulate the organization’s new vision to a variety of audiences throughout the community.

All United Way Impact Speakers are required to attend Speakers Bureau training on Monday, August 13. The session is limited to two speakers per agency, and will be held from 8–11 AM at United Way for Southeastern Michigan headquarters, located at 1212 Griswold in Detroit.  Free parking will be available at 1001 Woodward Avenue (the high-rise garage at Woodward and State Street). A continental breakfast will be provided.

This will be the only Speakers Bureau training held this year, so please make every attempt to be available for this very important session.

Please feel free to contact Chimene Anderson, UWSEM fulfillment specialist at 313-226-9296 with any questions, and thank you for your continued support.

United Way for Southeastern Michigan

United Way brings communities together to focus on the most important needs in the community -- building partnerships, forging consensus and leveraging resources to make a measurable difference.

If it requires fundraising, going to Congress, or just getting people to work together, that's what we do. We look at root causes - it's not enough to feed a hungry family, we look to change the conditions that led to hunger in the first place.
