ASTD-Puget Sound May Chapter Meeting

“"Why Metrics Matter: From Analysis to Evaluation."

Have you struggled to measure the impact of your efforts as a Workplace Learning Professional? Are you disappointed that training and development investments are often the first items to be cut in a budget crunch, when other budgets are often approved with little or no scrutiny? Do you feel under-equipped to discuss the business impact of workplace performance with your clients in terms they understand? Do you want to more effectively influence business decision makers to support your work?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, or if you want to get better at performing workplace learning analysis and assessments, then join us for this powerful session on “Metrics Matter: From Analysis to Evaluation,” created by and for members of the ASTDps. This introduction will prepare you to speak the language of business metrics and use both Front-End Analysis (FEA) and Back-End Assessment (BEA) to clearly demonstrate the value that results from training and development interventions and programs in the workplace.

What are the takeaways from this one-hour session?

• Get an overview of the metrics that really concern organizations.
• Learn to properly align your efforts as a Workplace Learning Professional with these metrics.
• Learn the realities of executing front-end analysis (FEA) and back-end assessments (BEA) in organizations, such as organizational, job, and task analysis and the four-level evaluation model.
• Learn how to effectively implement existing performance improvement models, with emphasis on the ASTD HPI model.
• Get an overview of how to augment these models with new approaches, tools, and practices.

This session is based on the introductory module to be offered later this year as part of the Chapter's FEA/BEA multi-module training program, developed in response to the high level of need expressed by ASTDps members. The session works as a stand-alone learning experience, providing a rich overview of the basics that will be of value to your work, whether or not you decide to attend the later, in-depth training programs.
