Congratulations! You’ve joined the Board of Directors of an organization that you admire whose mission you care about deeply. You are prepared to help with governance, strategy, policy, and fundraising, but what was that little thing about providing “financial oversight”?

Fear not! This workshop will prepare Board members to responsibly execute their obligation to oversee the financial affairs of their organizations. We will examine what the components of this obligation are, what resources are available to provide guidance, what financial reports to expect and how to use them, how the financial oversight roles and information needs vary depending on the circumstances, and what questions to ask as you review financial information and meet with management and other professionals. While we will assume that attendees have little pre-existing knowledge of finance, people who do understand finance but are new to nonprofit Board service should find this workshop useful as well.
