So you know you like photography, but you don't really know much about it and would like to? Perfect. For the next session of our studio workshop series, emilie inc. owner and former newspaper photographer and photo editor Emilie Sommer will walk you through the basics to set you on the right path for further exploration with your DSLR. We'll begin the workshop at our Portland studio with general instruction, and then walk to the Portland Company nearby for two shooting exercises.
Topics covered will include:
* history of photography
* principles of good photography: moments, composition, lighting
* shooting for visual variety
* exercise: how to operate your camera
* exercise: still life
* exercise: portrait
Please note that this class is not for seasoned professionals but those amateurs seeking a broader knowledge base to improve upon their hobby. Perhaps you're a florist looking to take better photographs of your arrangements or a mom hoping to capture better images of her child. Be sure to bring your manual, and know where to locate the shutter speed, aperture, ISO and white balance buttons on your camera.
If you do not own a DSLR we can arrange to rent one for you at an additional cost, or you are welcome to bring your point & shoot. Please be sure it has a manual mode and understand that a portion of the workshop will be dedicated to DSLR operation.
