Make Beer in Freehold (Sam Adams Summer Ale)
Sunday, April 25, 2010 at 2:00 PM (EDT)
Whether you love making beer or you just love drinking beer, this is the event that will bring young beer fans together. Meet up with us in downtown Freehold as we gather to brew and bottle a batch of suds. After this two session process you will walk away with new friends and fresh beer (how often does that happen?).
Apr 25, 2pm BREWING
May 8, 10am BOTTLING
(you do not have to attend both but you must pick up your beers)
Who can attend:
This is an NJYP MEMBERS ONLY event (aka you paid your dues).
You must pre-order (aka no walk-ins allowed).
The cost is $5 per 22 oz “Bomber Bottle”. Everyone MUST order a minimum of 6 bottles per person (but you can also order 12 bottles).
Cost includes everything (license, taxes, bottles, ingredients, teachers, etc)
About the American Wheat Ale:
This is a beer styled after Sam Adams Summer Ale. An Americanized version of a Hefe Weizen, these beers range within the pale to golden range in color. Reminiscent of a Hefe Weizen in appearance, unless filtered. Long-lasting head with a light to medium body, higher carbonation is proper. German Weizen flavors and aromas of banana esters and clove-like phenols will not be found. We use a substantial percentage of wheat malt. Hop character will be moderate in bitterness.
Often served with a lemon wedge (popularized by Americans), to either cut the wheat or yeast edge, which many either find to be a flavorful snap.
Post-Event Hanging Out:
Let’s go out for food after brewing and bottling somewhere in downtown Freehold.
We will be making beer inside the same facility that holds Grape Beginnings (the wine making place). Look for signs for Grape Beginnings and park in their lot or on the street.
How long will it take to brew the beer?
We will meet first to brew the beer. This will take approximately 2 hours.
How long will it take to bottle the beer?
2 weeks after brewing we will meet to bottle the beer. This will take about 1 hour.
What do I do with the empty bottles?
Bring them back to U-brew for bottle refunds.
How do I store the beer?
After your Microbrew is bottled, always store your beer in a cool, dark place. A fridge is ideal. There are NO preservatives in our beers; shelf life is reduced if you store in a warm place. Shelf life is generally 3 to 8 months but best to drink within 2 months.
What do I wear?
Play clothes! You'll be getting down and dirty.
I want to make a different beer. Now what?
The next beer we make will be based on this survey, http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/63QHKSH
