Kanban Explained

Seeing constraints, pulling value and eliminating waste is the goal of practicing kanban. The intended audience is for teams who want to learn more about Agile & Lean techniques such as continuous flow, queuing theory, self organization, and relentless improvement.  Maintaining flow while crafting quality software is the goal.  Teams need time to deliver AND time for continuous improvement while maintaining a sustainable pace.  Jon uses 5 physical boards to illustrate the concepts and encourages good dialogue. We will discuss several types of kanban boards such as WIP, backlog and retrospectives.

About the speaker

Jon Stahl is currently an Agile Coach and President of LeanDog Software Studio. He co-founded LeanDog after 18 years of experience providing IT leadership in both Fortune 500 and start up organizations. His passion is eliminating waste, optimizing the performance of IT teams and helping organizations become lean and agile. Jon provides extensive hands on experience in organizational transformations to Agile and Lean software methods. Jon is originally from the Beaver Falls/Blackhawk area and is an avid Pittsburgh sports fan. In fact, he even flies a Steeler flag outside his Agile Studio in Cleveland, which is on a 175 foot boat floating near the Browns stadium.

Parking Instructions

Follow Galveston Avenue all the way to the end, passing through pillars on each side into our parking lot (which is shared with a couple of other businesses.)  Park anywhere in the lot.  We are in the section of the building that is past Czarnowski Exhibits.  The employee entrance (which is well marked) is located near the rear of the parking lot, tucked back on the left.  Press the buzzer and someone will let  you in.  The office is at the top of the steps.
