6:00 PM
Haggis, poetry and music!
Celebrate Scotland's poet laureate Robbie Burns!
The lovely, beautiful and talented Lilly Clark on the bagpipes!
Poetry readings and Immortal Memory Speech by David Gemmel from Scotland!
Reservations required. $18.95 a plate. Includes one complimentary tasting of quaffing scotch with dinner and: cock-a-leekie soup, haggis warm reeking, rich wi' champit tatties, bashed neeps, roast beef & Scottish bangers, typsy laird (sherry trifle) and a tassie o' coffee. For non-haggis-eaters, other fare will be served: sizzling servings of 'neeps and tatties' (turnips and potatoes), Scottish shortbreads, oatcakes with cheese and other authentic dishes.
Wherever Burns Night is observed, the steaming haggis is served with ceremonial splendor, carried triumphantly to the table as a bagpiper plays a rousing tune and the cook follows behind, wielding a pair of whiskey bottles crossed before her like swords. The platter is placed before the host who recites Burns' famous poem To A Haggis. Then he pulls a knife and slashes open the haggis. The host gives a short speech on Burns, known as the Immortal Memory Speech. Once the speeches are complete the evening continues with songs and poems written by Burns. Favourites include Tam O'Shanter, Address To The Unco Guid, To A Mouse, and Holy Willie's Prayer. The evening ends with the company standing, linking hands and singing one of Robbie’s most famous works, Auld Lang Syne.
If you've got 'em, sport your kilt or kilt-skirt! If you don't, there's no dress code, so come just as you are, all are welcome!
