09.30 Basic Laser Physics & Laser safety T. Hode

Topics include concepts of wave length, dose, bandwidth, coherence, power density,

frequency, polarization, etc. Laser safety includes overview and use of different

types of lasers, Class 3 and Class 4 lasers, use of safety goggles, etc.

10.30 Doctor’s experience: General practice J. Berka

Dr. Berka is a general practitioner in the fields of naturopathy, acupuncture and

13.00 Mechanisms of Laser Therapy T. Hode

This section covers the primary and secondary mechanisms of laser phototherapy.

Primary mechanisms include photon absorption, speckles formation, intensity

thresholds, ATP synthesis; ROS formation; triggering of transcription factors;

upregulation of gene expressions; etc. Secondary mechanisms are represented by

the cascade of processes induced by the primary mechanisms, and include tissue

regeneration; influence on nerve function and regeneration; immune responses and

anti‐inflammatory action; etc.

14.30 Dose, Time & Power Density T. Hode

Dose, time and power density are essential for a good clinical outcome. This section

covers issues such as optimal dosage, choice of laser type, wavelength, treatment

time, output power, etc.

15.30 Doctor’s experience: Women’s health A. Behling

Dr. Behling has specialized in women’s health and laser phototherapy. In this

section she summarizes clinical experience, shares her protocols, and provides

insight into the use of laser phototherapy in women’s health.

09.00 Characteristics of a good laser instrument P. Jenkins

Consumer education provides practitioners with key points to consider when

chosing an instrument. Emphasis is placed on laser probe design and how that

influences penetration depth and treatment outcome. Also included is how to

critically evaluate claims from various manufacturers on the laser therapy market.

10.30 Treatment procedures, stepbystep
