Extraordinary Groups – How Ordinary Teams Achieve Amazing Results!

Geoff BellmanGeoff Bellman

Wisdom Webinar:  Friday, August 20 - 1 hour

12 Noon  PT, 1pm CT, 2 pm MT, 3 pm ET

Topic Description

  • What allows some teams to create experiences that far exceed their initial expectations?
  • How do those teams differ from most others?
  • How can we increase the likelihood that our next group will be extraordinary?

Geoff Bellman spent three years in search of answers to the above questions.  They interviewed people involved in sixty extraordinary groups including a project design team, a special forces platoon, a basketball team, a donors' circle, a financial management team, a motorcycle club, a software development team, and many more.  Their work resulted in:

  • A model describing six instinctive, human needs that each person seeks to meet in groups—whether at work, at home, or in the community
  • A set of eight performance indicators that differentiate extraordinary groups from all the rest
  • Four feelings characteristic of transformative individual and group experiences
  • Suggestions for action that any group member, leader, or consultant can take to encourage extraordinary groups

The new book from Jossey-Bass collects all these ideas.

Bio:  Geoff has worked with large organizations for forty years, fourteen as an internal consultant and manager, twenty-six as an external consultant. His work has focused on renewing large, mature organizations. In recent years he has given much of his time to small, not-for-profit organizations in the Seattle area. Geoff Bellman has written six books, with 300,000 in print and in a dozen languages:
