Description

The loss of a significant person can impact a child for life. But through the experiences provided in this workshop you can learn to support others who are grieving. At this workshop you will learn how to respond to children and teens when they have experienced complicated grief and loss. You will learn to identify the needs of the bereaved and how you can support them. The successful approach used in the "Kid's Place" program will be described. You will be involved in practicing some of the techniques the program uses including a check-in process, a support wheel, grief trail mix and some arts and crafts activities that help children improve how they cope with loss.

Learning Objectives

After attending this workshop participants will be able to:

  • Recognize warning signs of complicated grief in children
  • Facilitate activities in group settings
  • Describe tools to aid in working with grieving children, teens and adults
