Workshop: Community Forest Storm Mitigation Planning for Georgia's Communities (Mansfield)
Tuesday, April 2, 2013 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM (EDT)
Georgia Forestry Commission One-Day Workshop
Community Forest Storm Mitigation Planning
for Georgia’s Communities
Trees are an important part of our community's infrastructure. They provide us with many valuable and irreplaceable environmental, economic, and social benefits. But, during a storm, our trees are also at risk and can cause significant damage not only to infrastructure but also to personal property.
Learn how to develop a personalized Community Forest Storm Mitigation that focuses specifically on trees and ways to avoid or mitigate the damage they cause during a storm or other catastrophic event. Your personalized plan will serve as a guide for assessing current storm readiness, for creating a summary of your community's current forest management program, and as a storm mitigation checklist.
You’ll learn about:
- GEMA’s role in mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.
- How to assess your community’s current storm readiness.
- How to prepare, respond, and recover from a storm.
- How a Forest Storm Mitigation Plan fits with your community’s Local Hazard Mitigation Plan.
Don’t leave a response to such a disaster to chance. Sign up now!
Who should attend: Emergency Management personnel, Tree Board members, Elected Officials, County and City staff, Community Planners, City/County Arborists, Public Works personnel, Community Development personnel.
