Alan Fletcher's Colophon - Daniel Chehade
Thursday, May 9, 2013 from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM (BST)
London, United Kingdom
The Wynkyn de Worde Society and St Bride Foundation present:
Alan Fletcher’s Colophon
Alan Fletcher is one of the most influential figures in post-war British graphic design. As a founding partner of Pentagram, he
helped to establish a model of combining commercial partnership with creative independence. He developed some of the most
memorable graphic schemes of the era, notably the identities of Reuters and the Victoria & Albert Museum, and made his mark on book design as creative director of Phaidon.
In 2010, Daniel Chehade was approached by Raffaella Fletcher, daughter of Alan Fletcher, to help set up Fletcher Studio, which was established to develop her father’s archive and continue to exhibit and publish new work.
Daniel studied Graphic Design and Typography at the London College of Communication and went on to work for three years at John Morgan studio. Whilst continuing to do work for Fletcher Studio, alongside his own design work for cultural clients, he is also a visiting lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire.
This talk is based around Fletcher’s largely unknown series of books Monographica, and hopes to give some context to their
creation whilst at the same time offering an overview of Fletcher’s fifty year career.
Fifty percent of proceeds from this talk will go towards The Wynkyn de Worde Charitable Trust, which funds bursaries and seminars to assist in the education of future generations which will be involved in printing and related activities. Over 100 students have benefitted from the Trust in the past year, attending events at the Letter Exchange, Typographic Circle, Edward Johnston Foundation and St Bride Foundation.
