EMPLOYMENT POLICY SUMMIT 2010
“Supporting Nevadans
with developmental disabilities by facilitating employment and independence
through informed choice”
Community leaders will gather at three sites (Reno,
Las Vegas, and Elko) for the 2010 Employment Summits to help change
employment outcomes for Nevadans with intellectual and developmental
disabilities (ID/DD). The goal is to improve employment opportunities and
successes in employment for people with ID/DD within the State of Nevada and to
develop policy changes that govern individuals with ID/DD. In these trying
economic times we need to develop strategies for change that will encourage
Nevadans with disabilities to reduce their reliance on State and Federal subsidies
and increase their self-sufficiency. While supports are necessary to encourage
Nevadans with ID/DD to pursue their career interests and contribute to the
community, we respect consumer-driven choice and will utilize strategies to
promote this. You, as a community leader, are invited to help develop and
implement the working plan for policy change and recommendations to the 2011
Nevada Legislature.
There will also be a Pre-Summit Webinar on May 4th, 2010 from 10:30am-12:00pm that would be a great informational start for the Summit. Please sign up for the Pre-Summit Webinar here!
