Small Businesses Are Needed To Hire Persons With Disabilities.

The state of Michigan receives federal funding (including American Recovery & Reinvestment ACT of 2009) to work with individuals and employers to achieve quality employment outcomes and independence for people with disabilities. The goal is twofold: to assist persons with disabilities and to address the employment needs of the business community.

Much of this work is done by the Michigan Commission for the Blind (MCB) and Michigan Rehabilitation Service (MRS) through collaboration with the Unemployment Insurance Agency and the Bureau of Workforce Transformation. Some of the services and resources that are available to Small Businesses include:

·       Refer qualified applicants matched to your job requirements.

·       Save you on-the-job training costs.

·       Help retain workers who have recently acquired a disability/illness and help return injured workers to the job.

·       Demonstrate Return-On-Investment (ROI) regarding the reduction of Workers’ Compensation costs and adverting future Workers’ Compensation Claims.

·       Provide worksite ergonomic assessment and assistive technology consultation.

·       Assist with obtaining disability-related tax credits and deductions.
