You heard right!! Make a tiny replica of yourself in 3-D Imaging for Narcissists aka
3-D Scanning and Printing with the Makerbot Replicator. Colin will teach the Makerbot part, and Hackett will teach the self-scanning section beforehand. More details to come.
The opposite of cutting, milling, or lathe work, 3D printers draw from nothing to something to create a solid 3-dimensional object. Think hot glue gun attached to a robot who can push left/right(X), forward/back(Y) and up/down(Z). It's really that simple.
We will be printing with ABS filament--the same material LEGOs are made of. We will provide all the filament we will need for the class, give-away prints and goodies to take home. Bring your laptop if you can, if not you can use the shop's. You will get hands on personal time with a Replicator to print whatever yopu want.
If you know how to design in CAD or other 3D design software, feel free to bring you files along and get them printed. ***If you do not have any 3D design skills that is okay*** There is an online library of over 30,000 digital files for download. For free. Look at www.Thingiverse.com. It's a community of people based around sharing their ideas and designs. We can just download a file and get it printing.
$60 class fee ($30 for members) plus $5 materials fee - registration open until noon on the day before the class
Dress for the weather. The shop is as cold as is it outside or as hot. This is a working shop so prepare to get dirty.
