Hoosier Chapter PRSA: February Luncheon

LUNCHEON OVERVIEW:

 Indianapolis Counts in 2010

With the Census Bureau’s launch of a $133 million national advertising campaign in mid-January, it’s clear the 2010 U.S. Census is serious business.

That’s part of the message Indianapolis Complete Count Committee co-chairs Amos Brown and Steve Smith will share at the February luncheon as they deliver a presentation of the local initiative, spearheaded by Indianapolis Mayor Gregory A. Ballard, to make Indianapolis count in 2010.

With a special emphasis on diversity – as Brown will note, minority communities have historically been undercounted – Indy Counts 2010 is engaged in a five-month awareness campaign, culminating on Census Day, April 1, to ensure a complete and accurate count of Indy’s population. The data also will be used for government funding and representation as well as impacting area businesses development, tourism, and Indy’s status as one of America’s most livable big city’s.

Smith, of the Indiana Health Care Association, will also speak to the decennial count’s impact and importance to the business community. 2010 Census forms will arrive in mailboxes beginning March 15 and must be returned in time for the snapshot of America to land on President Obama’s desk by Dec. 31.
