Ryan Abbott of Loudpixel will be taking us through a step by step hands on tutorial that will leave you with a fully functional web application on your hands.

Ruby on Rails is one of the fastest growing frameworks that our time has seen. The number of projects, start-ups, and jobs sprouting up is remarkable. In this workshop, Ryan Abbott will show you how easy it is take your ideas from a thought, to a functioning, database driven web application.

We will start with Ruby on Rails basics, everything from what is Ruby to how to get your development environment started.  We will then go on to setting up your database, your application structure and going through the steps you need in order to get a basic database driven application working.

We will be building a basic personal blog that will demonstrate the basics of rails including generators, migrations, plugins, and relationships.

Laptop

Text Editor - Notepad++ for windows [free], or Textmate for OS X [free trial]

Please arrive early if you need assistance installing Rails on your personal laptop. If you are comfortable installing on your own we will be using Rails 3.0.1 and Ruby 1.9.2.

We will be providing coffee and snacks in the morning with lunch around noon.
