The Affordable Care Act is the law of the land and will impact virtually all companies.

The federal government has recently released major regulations and is moving full speed ahead with implementation of the law. It is imperative that companies do the same. Executives in tax, human resources, information technology, and finance need to become familiar with the impending deadlines and develop a comprehensive strategy for addressing key provisions of the law. The Act will affect companies’ benefit designs, workforce composition, reporting systems, tax administration, and bottom line. Failure to understand an employer’s obligations under the Affordable Care Act could result in fines, unforeseen tax liabilities, and reputational risk.

In this presentation, we will present an overview of the Affordable Care Act, including a discussion of the major employer requirements, key effective dates, and what companies need to know in the short- and long-term.

Cathy is a Senior Manager in Ernst & Young’s Human Capital practice in Los Angeles. She is focused on global compensation, payroll and HR risk issues, including advising numerous multinational companies on the design, administration and implementation issues surrounding HR programs and technology to over 100 countries.

Sharis Minassian - Manager, Ernst & Young
Sharis Minassian is a Manager with Ernst & Young’s Performance & Reward practice in Los Angeles, California and has been providing advisory services related to compensation and benefits programs for the past five years at Ernst & Young. Sharis specializes in working with qualified retirement plans and non-qualified deferred compensation plans. She regularly works with clients on operational and regulatory matters under ERISA and the Internal Revenue Code and advises clients in correcting qualification issues under the IRS’ Employee Plans Compliance Resolution System. She also has experience in various compensation matters, including employee benefits and 162(m), developing severance and retention programs, and reviewing executive compensation arrangements, focusing on regulatory requirements applicable to such arrangements.
