This month's presentation of the AIA|LA Committee on Architecture in Healthcare will feature how REAL INTEGRATED PROJECT DELIVERY is utilized for the design and construction of the new UHS TEMECULA VALLEY HOSPITAL.
Presentation will comprise of Six panel speakers:

Rebecca Hathaway, Universal Health Services, Senior Operations Executive RN, MSN, EDAC, Associate AIA
With more than 35 years of experience in hospital operations, Rebecca Hathaway is recognized for her leadership in improving hospital efficiency, implementing innovative system/process redesign, developing sustainable strategic direction, establishing evidence based outcomes, and facilitating patient centered care delivery. Rebecca has served as hospital administrator for two hospitals in the Kaiser Permanente Healthcare System, and as CEO and Assistant Administrator of Operations of Scripps Hospital Encinitas in San Diego, California. Rebecca was the Sr. Vice President for the Healthcare Practice at HMC Architects before joining UHS as Senior Operations Executive
Steve Wilson – HMC Architects, Associate DBIA™ / Principal
Steve has more than 20 years of healthcare experience that includes renovations, remodels, and upgrades for major healthcare providers, including Kaiser San Diego, Scripps Health, Loma Linda University, Cedars-Sinai, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Medical Centers, Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, and UCL West Wood, Rady Children’s Hospital and Universal Healthcare Services. Projects have ranged in size from $100K to $650 million. As a versatile principal who can deliver a project through a collaborative process, Steve is experienced in lean project delivery methods as well as design build.
Tom McCready, Senior Project Superintendent - DPR │Turner, a Joint Venture
Tom has been in the construction field in Southern California for over 33 years with a focus on healthcare including two years working for Long Beach Memorial and Miller Children’s Hospital as Director of Construction managing over $150mm in work. Tom is currently managing the Temecula Valley Hospital project which is trending to be the fastest hospital, of comparable size, built in California.
George Zettel, Integrated Project Leader – Core Team Member Lean Coordinator - DPR │Turner, a Joint Venture
George Zettel has been in the industry 28 years including roles in the building trades, construction supervision, project management, and as a facility owner. He now serves as the Manager, Lean Construction, Southwest USA, and Healthcare Integrated Project Delivery Executive. He is on the Core Team for the UHS Temecula Valley Hospital. He applies lean principles to ensure operations are efficient, sustainable, and continuously improving. George serves on the Associated General Contractor’s (AGC) Lean Construction Steering Committee, is Chair Emeritus of the Lean Construction Institute’s ( LCI ) Northern California Community of Practice and served on the LCI national board of directors from 2009 to 2011.
Scott Dater, Bergelectric Pre-Construction Manager
With over 25 years’ experience in the electrical design and construction industry, Scott has been involved with several technically challenging projects throughout California, Oregon, Nevada and Colorado. Scott’s primary role for Bergelectric is to oversee the electrical design process and drive value and innovation into all of his projects. Along with his current role as Pre-Construction Manager, Scott has held the position of Field Superintendent and General Foreman in the 15 years he has been with Bergelectric. Prior to his tenure with Bergelectric, Scott had worked with two other electrical contractors in his previous 10 years of experience.
Ken Lindsey, Contract Executive and Preconstruction Lead - Southland Industries
Ken is well versed in Lean Construction fundamentals and a member of three different IPD teams over the past 5 years, Ken has 13 years of experience in the design and construction of HVAC and plumbing projects in Southern California. His primary responsibilities include project guidance through the design and preconstruction phases while relying on conceptual estimating and target value design skills. Ken’s developed a broad base of healthcare design and construction experience, and is currently serving as HVAC and plumbing design-build lead at Temecula Valley Medical Center.
