Event Details

Existing buildings are the dominant energy consumers and green-house gas creators in the United States (significantly larger than industry and transportation). We must focus our conservation efforts on these facilities if we are to meet our national, statewide and local energy reduction goals. Conducting energy audits is the first step in the process of improving the energy use of these facilities.

This educational workshop focuses on energy auditing of existing buildings. The workshop will describe the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) audit levels 1, 2 and 3, pre-audit assessments, and energy auditing tools and resources. The goal of the workshop is for attendees to understand the different levels of energy audits and the importance of reducing energy requirements for existing buildings in California and the U.S. The workshop will provide beneficial information for various disciplines including architects, engineers, construction contractors, operations and maintenance personnel, real estate professionals, and consultants. Workshop attendance requires no prerequisite knowledge.

Course objectives include:
  • Understand the importance of reducing the energy use of existing buildings in California and the U.S.
  • Apply the energy audit process and the different levels of energy audits as defined by ASHRAE.
  • Conduct pre-audits assessments and understand how these studies help guide the audit process.
  •  Apply energy audit documentation techniques and measurement tools.
