• Derek Melber, Derek Melber (MCSE and MVP) is a consultant, speaker, and author. Program Descriptions:

• Least Privilege for Endpoints: Most corporate desktops are not secured, protected, nor safe. Whether you are running Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7, or 8 most of these end point computers are opening up security holes for the entire network. The reasons these end point computers are insecure vary. Regardless of the reason, the root result of the insecurity is due to the fact that user is a local administrator on the computer. Some might ask what about a solution to this dilemma? The solution is to implement least privilege, which is also referred to as Least Privilege User Access (LUA). In this workshop, Derek Melber will guide you through the proper solutions, and expose you to the failed solutions, in solving this complex issue with desktops. When you have completed this workshop, you will have all you need to develop and deploy a least privilege solution in your company.
• Top 10 Security Settings for Windows Active Directory...and How to Audit Them!: 

  Everyone is concerned about security, especially those security settings that are most important. This session will cover the top 10 Windows security settings, which are typically configurable using Group Policy. Here, you will see the setting, understand the options, get the best practice, and see where to configure the setting manually or via Group Policy. Not only will you see how to configure the settings, you will be shown how to discover what the setting is on each computer, efficiently and using free tools!

  What you will learn:

  1. Which tools to audit every security control point we discuss (for free)

  2. How to protect against anonymous access

  3. How to properly secure authentication

  4. How to protect services and service accounts

  5. How to properly use User Account Control

  6. How to protect users from the Internet when using Internet Explorer
