This workshop will show basic operation of the Stick welder. (SMAW Shielded Metal Arc Welding). Stick welding is used when you need a strong weld on heavy steel and iron.


We will go over all of the basic needs for operation of the equipment.  By the end of the session each attendee will have learned the following skills
-Safety and theory behind SMAW operation
-How to set up the work area and prepare the material
-How to set up the machine and calculate settings
-Basic weld types butt, lap, T
-Clean  up of machine
-Testing a weld
-How to identify what a weld looks like when it is wrong and how to improve it.  

The goal for all attendees is to be able to join two pieces of steel and operate the equipment safely.  This will be enough to get you started.  To weld stainless, aluminum, or other more exotic materials, more work will be needed.

Participation requires closed toe shoes, non polyester clothing, a long sleeve shirt and long pants.
