Brown, Bitter, and Stirred: A Cocktail Class With NYC Barmen Ari Form & Sother Teague
Sunday, January 20, 2013 from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM (EST)
NYC Barmen Ari Form & Sother Teague of Amor Y Amargo will be teaching a class on the wonderful world of brown, bitter, & stirred cocktails! Amor Y Amargo is a 13-seat cocktail bar in the East Village specializing in drinks that feature bitter ingredients. About half the drinks these bartenders make are off-menu creations tailored to each drinker's specific needs, and as such these gentlemen are well-versed in the tools of the trade! This class would be perfect not only for bartenders, but home cocktail enthusiasts as well.
The cost of the class covers cocktails and snacks for each attendee. This class will run 90 minutes, and tickets are limited to keep the experience personal for each guest.
Ari Form is a true Brooklyn instituion, making his name running the bar program at The Jake Walk, where he became an expert in both wine and cocktails. He now holds court at Amor Y Amargo in the East Village. A bartender from whom much can be learned, Ari's demeanor behind the stick is like that of an alchemic Andy Kaufman.
Sother Teague's first career was in back-of-house: he has cooked all over the United States, was Alton Brown's technical chef on Good Eats for several seasons, and was a culinary instructor at the New England Culinary Institute. A natural teacher, Sother transitioned to bartending some ten years ago, and managed the bar at Rye in Brooklyn before taking the helm of Amor Y Amargo. He is at the top of his game, and has been a national finalist in cocktail competitions, has done a series of videos for gizmodo.com, and has spent time working for Bittermen's Bitters.
