After Marienbad is a wholly unique exploration of memory and place through puppetry.  Adapted and directed by Belarus-born artist Yelena Zhelezov, After Marienbad will perform at the CalArts Butler Building 2 (BB2) performance space (24700 McBean Parkway, Valencia).   Inspired by the 1961 French film Last Year at Marienbad, Zhelezov’s After Marienbad invites viewers into the architectural maze of an infinite hotel, and into the even more infinitely twisting tension between memory and reality.  Through a series of shifting memories, After Marienbad considers the relationship between one woman and the two men who compete to possess her.  Yelena Zhelezov, a Puppetry MFA candidate, guides the four-person cast in a dance down the uncertain paths of memory and obsession during this 35-minute puppet show.  With 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. preview performances on Thursday, December 10, After Marienbad will run Friday, December 11 through Saturday, December 12, then again on Monday, December 14 through Wednesday, December 16.  The show will perform twice each night at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. except for Wednesday, December 16, which will offer only an 8 p.m. performance. Admission is free and by reservation only. For reservations, please visit www.calarts.edu/events.

To gain entrance to the show, please bring your printed confirmation to the Box Office, located in the CalArts main gallery on the 3rd floor, at least twenty minutes before curtain.  Unclaimed tickets will be released twenty minutes before curtain.
