Pray the City
Monday January 7th at 7 p.m.
a multi-denominational, multi-generational,
multi-ethnic evening of prayer and worship
Hosted initially by
Saticoy Church 1045 S. Saticoy, Ventura, Ca.
Pray the City is an open source, distributed community of friends. We exist to fill God's ears with joy. We are multi-generational, multi-denominational, multi-ethnic, lovers of Jesus who are encouraging prayer everywhere, in multiple venues and multiple creative approaches.
Pray the City is as simple as a few friends sending a text saying "Meet at Arroyo Grande Park at 6 p.m. Bring instruments" ... to a city-wide gathering of lovers of Jesus. From closets to churches to the County Government Center and all points in-between, we envision a day when 24/7 prayer is happening across Ventura County in a non-venue specific way. We have no one to exalt but Jesus, and nothing to promote but prayer.
Where prayer is already happening, we encourage and affirm it. Where it is not, we seek to create environments where it will flourish. We are a community of passionate Jesus lovers who love to pray and worship. We provide resources, mentors, occasional gatherings beginning January 7th, 2013).
Pray the City is dreaming with Jesus for major things to celebrate.
1. Increased Public Prayer and Worship- Imagine going to Starbucks, or Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf and finding people praying together. It's already starting. Imagine prayer and worship happening everywhere. We believe it's beginning and that God takes pleasure in it.
2. Increased Congregational Prayer for Each City- We are encouraging every congregation to take a few minutes in a service to creatively pray for their city. We have many creative ideas on how to go about it under the heading"Stories".
3. Increased Community- There are many prayer/worship gatherings taking place. We dream of God causing new friendships to flourish.
4. Increased Mentorship in Prayer- There are many people in our community who have been locked in a closet with God. They've learned a few things about prayer. We believe there is a new generation of worshipers, anxious to go deep. We're calling out the mamas and the pappas to wrap their arms around this generation and love them into a deeper life of prayer and worship.
