3 For 1. Pay one admission price and see three short classic children's tales brought to life through the art of puppetry! The resident performers at The Toy Museum utilize a menagerie of different styles, techniques and of course puppets and the Museum’s toys to put on a show the whole family will enjoy! The performance is a great introduction to children’s literature through puppetry and storytelling. Tickets now on sale: Saturday’s, March 2, 9, and 16. Showtime: 2pm. Limited Seating, all tickets $10 per person. Reservations required.
The Story of Ferdinand the Bull (15 minutes)
This tale, based on the children's book The Story of Ferdinand by Munro Leaf, originally published in 1936, tells the story of a young bull named Ferdinand living in Spain who against his wishes is recruited to participate in the great bull fights in Madrid! But all Ferdinand wants to do is live a peaceful life on his farm and smell the flowers. Full of fun, humor and a bit of Spanish history and presented through rod puppets and hand puppets designed and built by Chris Palmieri,
Goldie and the Bears (12 minutes)
Using authentic teddy bears and dolls the puppeteer-actors of the Toy Museum perform a wonderful modern adaptation of the classic fairy tale of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. It's Boo Bears first day of school and he's excited but concerned that he'll make a mistake and the other students will laugh at him! Boo's parents take him berry hunting when along comes Goldie who's curiosity draws her to the Bear's cottage and its aromas of warm cinnamon organic porridge. The tale pulls two families together as they learn the lesson of how mistakes teach us well.
Mumford the Monster's Magnificent Fairy Tales (15 minutes)
This fully interactive, improvised show takes a different classic fairy tale each week and turns it upside down when Mumford the Monster and his other silly puppet friends must band together to put on a show! The only problem is they don't have enough actors to tell their story and must use members of the audience (both kids AND grownups) to help them put on their production. This show will have the whole family laughing and learning how important it is to cooperate and work together!
CAST:
Chris Palmieri, originally hailing from the magical far away land of New Jersey, Mr. Palmieri, a puppeteer, actor, comedian, writer and director has found himself working all over NYC and the surrounding areas. He has been fortunate enough to join the cast at the Toy Museum of NY this past fall. Chris works both performing and building puppets for the museum and has appeared in their show “The History of Toys” as well as helping to develop and perform in Toy Museum of NY's Puppet Theater. Chris' favorite toy was (and still is) a bear named Teddy whom he's been acquainted with since the age of three and was probably the first thing he ever puppeteered.
Catherine Gasta, originally from Philadelphia, joined The Toy Museum in 2010 after being a founding company member of Washington DC's premier physical theater company, Synetic Theater. Playing the roles of both Rosie Rascal and the Queen in the museum's theater performances; "History of Toys" and "The Queen's Birthday Party", Ms. Gasta also teaches theater classes at the museum's after school programs. A professional actress, mime, improviser, director and choreographer, Ms. Gasta is a gem in the museum's artistic staff.
Brianna Kalisch is an actor, director, storyteller, puppeteer, mime, and stilt-walker; a wearer of many hats (and wigs!) She has worked both here in the US and also overseas in Australia where the koala bears live. She's been with the Toy Museum since 2011 and has loved every minute. One of her favorite toys as a child was a little blue dog named Blue Dog who went on many thrilling adventures. She has since become a little more creative in the names department but is still just as excited to go on imaginary journeys.
