Port wine is one of the most emotive and interesting drinks, bringing with it hundreds of years of fascinating history, politics and people. With wines as rich and long lived as this history it is little surprise that for many it represents one of the pinnacles of fine wine. In recent years it has experienced a heady rise in demand, with many international critics selecting top port wines for high praise (and points!) with consequent scarcity and astronomical prices.

However, few know the full range of styles and vintages available and even fewer have been fortunate enough to taste these together with fine examples of outstanding old vintages. For our Christmas event we would like welcome back Dr Ed Fitzgerald, who has hosted several memorable tastings for the Stanford Club over the past few years.

As former President of Oxford University Wine Society and a Judge at the World’s largest wine tasting, the annual International Wine Challenge, Edward will guide us through a range of ports in this tutored tasting. Come and join us for a perfect way to start the holiday season! As Samuel Johnson wrote: Claret is the liquor for boys; port for men!

• Single Quinta
• Vintage port
• Old Tawny

A cheese platter and refreshments will be served during the event.
