Ethics and Law Training Sessions

APA California Northern Section is hosting a Saturday half-day training session that will address both law and ethics AICP certification maintenance (CM) requirements.
The ethics session will start at 9:00 a.m. and will be presented by Colette Meunier, AICP, Hanson Hom, AICP, and Scott Davidson, AICP. It will focus on balancing friendly customer service with planners’ legal obligations, including the AICP Code of Ethics.
The law training will follow at 10:45 a.m. and will be presented by Alexandra M. Barnhill, Esq. and Matthew Visick, Esq. It will address the relationship between the citizen initiative process and CEQA, and discuss the current split within the courts on whether a citizen-sponsored initiative measure adopted by a city council (in lieu of putting it on the ballot) requires CEQA review. Cases discussed will includeNative American Sacred Site & Environmental Protection Assn. v. City of San Juan Capistrano, and the more recentTuolumne Jobs & Small Business Alliance v. Superior Court (Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.) which created the split in the courts. Attendees are welcome to sign up for one or both training sessions. Light breakfast and lunch will be provided.
