Re-Imagine the Arts Distric Workshop with James Rojas
James Rojas is partnering with the Hub to facilitate an interactive workshop to reimagine LA’s Arts District by asking participants: How would you create your ideal Arts District? There are no right or wrong answers, no discussions, pictures or lectures, just participants' honest, gut, responses. You can can preserve people, places or things.
This exercise will tap into the participant’s memory of place by having them self-reflect. Participants will be given twenty-minutes, construction paper and thousands of small colorful, vibrant, tactile, objects to chose from to build their solution. These objects trigger their connections to the built environment. By seeking out and touching these objects participants begin to merge this micro experience with objects with their macro experience of how they move through and experience urban space. Once time is up the participants have one minute to explain their idea to the group. Rojas will then synthesis their one-minute narrative into an urban planning framework.
This event is the first of many B-Civic Hub-branded events designed to encourage a sense of community & open-mindedness in low-stress settings while raising awareness and conversation around civic issues.

About James Rojas
Place It! founder James Rojas holds an MA in City Planning and an MS in Architecture Studies from MIT. He works as a city and transportation planner, and is the founder of the Latino Urban Forum, a non-profit dedicated to increasing awareness of planning and design issues facing low-income Latinos. He has written and lectured extensively about how culture and immigration are transforming the American front yard and landscape, and, through Place It!, has organized an impressive number of on-site model installations and interactive workshops.
