Event Details

President Dwight Eisenhower is remembered as a genial, golf-playing grandfatherly figure, a retired general with a great smile and poor syntax. His presidency is recalled as a peaceful but
boring decade. Using his insight, honed from his role as Supreme Commander of Allied Forces in Europe, and studying military history, he believed that wars have a life of their own, and often destroy those who start them. Using diaries and newly declassified papers, Evan Thomas has written a fast-paced and

highly human drama of a man and a decade that seems calm today only because Eisenhower’s bluff worked.
Dr. A. Glenn Crothers is the Director of Research at The Filson Historical Society and an associate professor in history at the University of Louisville. He is the author of Quakers Living in the Lion’s Mouth: The Society of Friends in Northern Virginia, 1730-1863.

Attendees are invited to bring a bag lunch. The Filson will supply soft drinks.

Limited Capacity; Reservations are required.
