Join us January 17th when we welcome Tim Barton, Holding a BA in Business from the University of Kansas and an MS in Finance from Louisiana State University, Tim began his career in 1992 as President and Co-founder of UWI Association Programs, a telecommunications company concentrated on long distance affinity programs for commercial trade associations. UWI grew organically and through acquisitions into publicly traded Network Long Distance before selling to IXC Communications/Broadwing in June, 1998. In August of 1998, Tim founded Freightquote.com and has since grown the business past $500 million in annual revenue and more than 1,000 employees. Freightqote.com, the largest online freight broker, serves freight shipping customers’ needs across North America by specializing in customized freight solutions, including less than truckload, truckload, intermodal and air freight options. Along the way, Tim has been recognized as a true innovator through several prestigious honors, with Entrepreneur Magazine’s listing in the top five of their “Hot 100 ranking”, Ernst and Young rewarding him with “Entrepreneur of the Year”, Forbes Magazine’s “Best of the Web” rankings and most recently by Ingrams’ Magazine’s listing of “Kansas City’s Best Places to Work For.” In 2010, Freightquote.com was listed in KC Business’ “Top 10 Companies”, InformationWeek’s top 500, Ingrams’ Kansas City’s “100-Fastest Growing Companies” and Kansas City Business Journal’s “Top 150 Private Companies.” Tim currently serves as the Chairman of the Board of the Center for Education Reform in Washington DC, and as a Member of the Board of Advisors for the University of Kansas School of Business. When he’s not working on further innovations in shipping technology, Tim can be found competing in triathlons. |
