Learn what the Peace Corps Volunteers are doing to address the global HIV/AIDS crisis at a special information session on HIV/AIDS education and awareness initiatives. According to United Nations statistics, approximately 95% of the 39.5 million people living with HIV/AIDS live in developing countries, and in 2006 some 4.3 million people became newly infected with the virus. To date, Peace Corps Volunteers have assisted nearly one million individuals through HIV/AIDS activities.
A panel of returned Peace Corps Volunteers who worked in communities affected by the epidemic will discuss their experiences and answer questions.
Peace Corps Volunteers receive: round trip transportation overseas, a monthly living allowance, full medical/dental coverage, possible student loan deferment, 24 vacation days per year and a $6075 readjustment allowance after completion of service.
