Naming & Trademarking: Creating Your Brand's First Impression (Livestream from NYC)

Naming is widely thought to be a purely creative process where people drink coffee and brainstorm. Anyone who has tried this methodology to develop a brand name has probably found it to be rather ineffective. During this class you'll be learning how to name your product/company - the right way. Hint: it doesn't start with naming.

Equally as important as establishing a name, is the protecting its trademark. Many small businesses overlook these important steps in creating and securing their brand.  This class is intended to demystify the name development and trademark process for small businesses and entrepreneurs.

Nina Beckhardt founded The Naming Group upon the belief that naming is an all-too-often neglected opportunity to advance a brand vision. She channels the entrepreneurial spirit that built this agency into every partnership, challenging clients to think of naming – and the naming industry – in innovative ways. Her agency has developed names like the Chevrolet Sonic and the Capital One Venture Card. A recognized authority on brand naming, Nina has been published nationally, appeared on the Emmy Award-winning television show, Autoline Detroit, and has presented on naming innovation in corporate boardrooms and at the FutureTrends conference. And when she's not working for clients like GM, P&G, Capital One, EPSON, and Sony, she's teaching entrepreneurs how to name strategically - and successfully.

Laurie Marshall, owner of TradeMarks The Spot, is an experienced Trademark Attorney and has been practicing for over 15 years.  She worked at Major League Baseball Properties for close to ten years as in-house Trademark Counsel and now has her own company representing many MLB and NFL clubs as well as entrepreneurs and small business owners.  Laurie is also on the Advisory Board of Big Apple Entrepreneurs and in the fall she will begin working as a Venture in Residence at New York Institute of Technology's Entrepreneur Center.
