CORPORATE CREATIVITY:

Needed Now, More Than Ever

Come celebrate two marvelous events: Employee Learning Week, your profession’s big week where we demonstrate the power of linking learning to organization results; and the 75th anniversary of one of our region’s great learning institutions, Seattle University.

You will enjoy a stimulating evening with your friends and colleagues, old and new, including a gala reception with full wine bar.

And because our two organizations are all about learning, the highlight of the evening is a powerful presentation by Sam Stern on creativity. An organization’s creativity is the source of new ideas that can lead to everything from the tiniest improvements to dramatic innovations, and is a key to both corporate success and personal fulfillment. Using a variety of actual cases, Sam describe why creativity is so important to organizations at this particular time and will also identify the elements of creativity that companies and individuals can use to dramatically improve their creative performance. In these challenging economic times, this is a message of hope that we all need to hear.

Sam is the Dean of the College of Education at Oregon State University. Sam's research and writing are concerned with creativity in education and business. In addition to his teaching at secondary schools, community colleges and OSU, Sam has taught in the Department of Systems Science at Tokyo Institute of Technology, the Department of Economics at Harvard University, and in the MBA Program at the Athens Laboratory of Business Administration in Greece. Between 1987 and 1992, he spent three and a half years conducting research in Japan. While in Japan, Stern served as the Japan Management Association Professor of Creativity Development and led a research team in a study of corporate creativity. He is the co-author of Corporate Creativity (Berrett-Koehler, 1998) which has been translated into ten languages and was named "Book of the Year" by the Academy of Human Resource Development. Sam serves as an advisor on creativity to schools and businesses in the U.S., and other countries.  Dr. Stern has served as an advisor on creativity to organizations in the U.S., and other countries, including Hewlett-Packard, KPMG, NASA, NEC, Polaroid, Renault, and Seiko-Epson.
