SPACE IS LIMITED TO 48 MEMBERS FOR OVERNIGHT STAY

Leave Oxford Academy at approx. 6:30am on Saturday via school bus.  Spending the night is optional but student must provide transportation from/to tournament on Saturday night and Sunday morning if they don't choose to spend the night.  Cost per member to spend the night will be approximately $60 which includes hotel, transportation, Saturday night pizza/movie, Sunday morning breakfast.  We strongly encourage team members to spend the night.  We plan on staying at the Doubletree Hotel which is a 10 minute walk to the high school.  We will also have at least one passenger car available to us.  

IMPORTANT NOTE:  If you spend the night you are expected to stay for the duration of the tournament.  The only exception to this is if you pre-arrange for a parent (and only a parent) to pick you (and only you) up at the high school.  Pre-approval must be received by Kathy or Nancy.

FUNDRAISING:  We have two bingo fundraisers scheduled for 11/7 and 12/5.  Notification for these fundraisers will go very shortly.

Events and Divisions:

In debate they offer both Novice and Varsity divisions in Policy debate, Lincoln-Douglas debate, Parliamentary debate and Student Congress.  There is a preliminary limit of 6 entries per debate per division. Additional entries will be waitlisted so you should sign up for an IE if you want to be guaranteed a spot for overnight stay. Five prelim rounds of Policy, LD, and Parli. Three prelim rounds of Congress.  The two divisions will be collapsed into one Open division if there are fewer than 16 entries in one of the divisions.  If fewer than 16 entries, the division will break directly to semis, 16+ entries breaks to quarters.  We will use the Jan./Feb. LD topic.

In speech they offer Open divisions in the events of Dramatic Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Persuasion, Expository and Extemporaneous.

Students may enter up to three events; consisting of one debate event and two speech events.  (However, a student entering Extemp, may only single enter in the speech events; but may still enter one debate event.) 

Awards will be given to all speech and Congress finalists.  All quarter-finalists and higher in the debate events will receive awards.  We will also present Individual Sweepstakes awards to the top three individual competitors and overall sweepstakes awards to the top three schools.
