Speakers:

Jackie Maguire, Chief Executive, Coller IP Management

Jackie has director level experience in operations, marketing and business development. With 20 years technology transfer, commercialisation and consultancy experience, Jackie has established Coller IP Management recognising the importance of protecting intellectual capital within a business.
Jackie is a physicist and chartered engineer by background. She is an enthusiastic marketer and business developer with hands-on experience of taking new services to market. She specialises in productising services and concentrates on realising value from non-tangible assets. Jackie also has a wide appreciation of the issues associated with the commercialisation challenges faced by enterprises. She has extensive experience in the use and interpretation of landscape analysis.

 

Alex Macpherson, Managing Director, Octopus Ventures

Alex has extensive experience of investing into smaller companies. Within the Octopus Ventures team, he has particular responsibility for evaluating and assessing potential investee companies and negotiating transactions with a view to maximizing the returns that are generated.
Prior to joining Octopus in 2007, he worked for ten years at SG Warburg as a trade and risk manager in equity derivatives, where he was responsible for risk management and trading plus European profit and loss. He also previously founded a growth consultancy for small businesses, assisting a number of small businesses with their financing requirements prior to taking up his current position.

Chris Lane, Partner, Kingston Smith

Chris Lane qualified as a chartered accountant in 1983, and in 1986 he joined Callingham Crane, becoming a partner in 1988. The firm then merged with Kingston Smith in 1991 where he has continued to develop his own portfolio of owner managed clients.
His client portfolio is spread across many business sectors and involves companies, partnerships and individuals. Chris therefore deals with both audit accounting issues but also taxation issues for his clients. Chris is an active member of the firm's Leisure and Hospitality sector group, and regularly writes for Caterer & Hotel Keeper magazine.
He is also responsible for 'Business Doctor', a question and answer column in The Sunday Times which he has been writing for since its inception in 1997.
