Best Practices Seminar: Healthy Indoor Environments

Longview Education Associates, USGBC-REC and Fireman’s Fund are sponsoring a Green Building Best Practices seminar on Healthy Indoor Environments on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at Fireman’s Fund in Novato, from 6 to 9 pm.

According to the U.S. EPA, the least healthy air you breathe is likely to be in the building you live or work in! Historically an area of little concern to building designers, owners, and operators, we now understand that Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) directly affects human health and represents the greatest financial driver in favor of green buildings! This evening seminar will feature presentations by an expert in the evolving regulatory framework, building design, materials specification, and post occupancy considerations.

Lindsay Baker, from the UC Berkeley Center for the Built Environment, will discuss "Post Occupancy Evaluation: Occupant Feedback to Design Better Buildings."

Lindsay Baker is a PhD student in the UC Berkeley Department of Architecture, focusing in Building Science. She received her MS Arch at Berkeley, and her BA in Environmental Studies from Oberlin College, where she focused her studies on Ecological Design and Architectural History. She has worked for the Southface Energy Institute in Atlanta, the Chattanooga Planning and Design Studio, the Energy Coordinating Agency in Philadelphia, and most recently with the U.S. Green Building Council. At the USGBC, she coordinated the development of LEED rating systems and standards procedures, as well as developing the LEED for Schools program. Lindsay is currently working on occupant surveying as a method for measuring building performance, focusing on occupant comfort in K-12 educational buildings.

The November Best Practices seminar is part of a four-session monthly series being coordinated by Longview Education Associates and USGBC-REC and hosted by Fireman’s Fund at their offices at 777 San Marin Drive in Novato, CA. The cost of attendance is $15 for USGBC-REC members and $25 for non-members. (If you are unsure about whether or not you are a current member of USGBC, please contact Cheri Lieurance, USGBC-REC chapter coordinator at 707-664-6250 or email her at cheri@usgbc-rec.org.)
