Peace Corps needs engineers to:
Increasing access to water and sanitation services by:
Survey, design, and direct construction of appropriate water distribution systems, such as: gravity-fed, hand or motor-driven pumps, storage tanks, pump houses, stand pipes, distribution points, small collection dams, wells.
Help construct latrines, septic tanks, simple home improvements, and solid waste disposal systems.
Secure funding, ordering supplies and equipment, and contracting laborers.
Education opportunities also exist at the middle and high school levels in the areas of math and science.
Peace Corps Volunteers serve in 74 countries around the globe and there are engineering needs in many of them. But Peace Corps Volunteers don't just transfer skills and knowledge to host country nationals to help improve lives and create sustainable development; they also immerse themselves in a new culture, become fluent in a second language, and end up having a life-changing experience. The benefits of service are 3 months of training, $6,000 readjustment allowance, two graduate school opportunities, a living stipend, full medical benefits, and non-competitive eligibility status for federal jobs.
Come to this Engineering without Borders and Peace Corps information session to learn more about opportunities for you.
