The conference will be held on Wednesday, May 26 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Retter Auditorium of the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, 900 N.W. 17th Street, Miami, FL (UM Medical campus).

Speakers will include Christopher M. Lee, Ph.D. and Carolyn P. Phillips, M.S. two nationally recognized advocates and leaders in the field of learning disabilities and adaptive technology. Dr. Lee published Faking It: A Look into the Mind of a Creative Learner and What About Me? Strategies for Teaching Misunderstood Learners. These books draw on Dr. Lee’s developmental challenges attending the University of Georgia and  his experiences assisting teachers and parents in optimizing the performance of students with learning disabilities.

Ms. Phillips serves as director of Tools for Life, a program operated under the aegis of the Georgia Department of Labor, Division of Rehabilitation Services. Ms. Phillips has dedicated her time and energy to promoting independence for people with disabilities through advocacy, education, assistive technology, and fundraising. She received her assistive technology practitioner certification from the Rehabilitation Engineers Society of North America.

The speakers will discuss trends, research, funding, products, and resources in assistive technology; education in the digital age-alternative media helpful in adaptive mainstream technology and resources; and creative equal access/universal design for learning.
