CREDIT / DEBIT CARD USAGE :

Get your Developer Accounts ready in advanced! Make sure your Debit / Credit Card works with the Store! Why is your Card needed? It is ONLY used for the Windows Store Account ACTIVATION. In order for you to publish your App to the Windows Store, Microsoft will need to verify that your Windows Store Account is registered by you, a human (and not by a bot!). The Windows Store will do a Credit / Debit Card Verification by doing a Test Charge (RM4, and between RM10 to RM15). They will reverse back the charges after the confirmation. If this is your first time using your Card for an online transaction, please contact your Bank to enable online transactions. To qualify to win prizes in WOWZAPP 2012, You or Your Team will need to upload the Apps to the Windows Store by the end of the hackathon.

Windows Azure Mobile Services

Does your Store App idea include Cloud services or storage? Check out Get started with Mobile Services – registered WOWZAPP 2012 participants are eligible for FREE Windows Azure temporary subscription that you can activate during the Hackathon. You can do this at the Azure booth. You can also stand a chance to takeaway Limited Edition Special Azure T-Shirts & Starbucks Cards too!

What is Hackathon?

A hacktahon is an event where people get together and develop awesome projects (in this case Windows 8 Applications) in a short period of time. For WOWZAPP, the Hackathon would run for 24 hours over the weekend but the whole event will be longer at 30+ hours for rules before it starts and prizes at the end. You will need to come at 9AM Saturday (10th November 2012) to confirm your registration made here, to get ready for the hackathon.

HACKING?!

Don’t worry, it is not hacking as in creating a security breach per-se but instead just like what we explained above, making awesome projects or Applications in a short period of time.

Do I need to create a team? 

Yes, you’re encouraged to do so! Maximum of 3 people in a team. We would encourage if your team comes from different backgrounds / universities J

Do I need to pay?

Nope, it’s free. Attend and create great Windows 8 Apps together with your friends from various campuses and companies J

Do you provide food and drinks?

We would provide main meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner - all halal). Drinking water would be available. We would recommend you to bring your own tumbler to refill water. Prayer rooms will be opened there for this event.

Can post-graduate students participate?

Yes! Any undergraduate or post-graduate students are allowed to participate J. Make sure you’re 18 years old and above!

Do I have to bring my own laptop?

Yes, unfortunately we can’t provide computers. Please bring anything that you will need to code (for eg: extra monitor, external keyboards etc). If you don't have a laptop, you can bring your desktop. ;)

Do we get Internet access over at the venue?

Yes, but with thousands of people there all sharing the same line, we would advise you to bring your own 3G/4G dongle (or tether with your data plan mobile) to avoid clogging the same bandwidth as there will also be live streaming planetwide.

Do I need to create Windows Store Account?

Yes, in order to qualify for the prizes, you will need to upload your Windows Store application to Windows Store at the end of hackathon. Please check out the slides to find out how to create it at http://aka.my/mywowzapp2012skydrive 

What else do I need to bring?

You can bring your sleeping bag, toothbrush toiletries, etc. Your team has to bring a power strip.  We will send out a communication email prior to the event. There are cinema seats at the back of the hall upstairs which are usable.

Do I have to install any software?

You will need to install Windows 8 and Visual Studio 2012. In case if you’re developing for Windows Azure, you will need Windows Azure SDK installed and for Windows Phone, you will need Windows Phone SDK installed too.

I don’t know any programming, where can I learn?

Do we have to work all night?

While the space will be open all night and teams are welcome to work all night, we recognize a little sleep can go a long way towards improving coding comprehension. We would encourage teams plan out their shifts to take turns.

Can we run Windows 8 in a Virtual Machine (VM)?

Yes, as long as you can develop your Windows 8 Apps and get it published to the Store J

I cannot get my Verification Code while signing into Windows Store. (Forgot email address, etc)

We suggest you to create a new Microsoft Account.

What if I do not have Credit Card or Debit Card? Can I still join to win the prizes?

Please find a teammate that is able to register to the Windows Store. It is required for you to upload your Windows 8 Apps to the Windows Store by the end of hackathon to qualify to win the prizes. 

How do I go to MMU?

We do not cover your transportation. However, if your campus has a lot of students going, you can seek your campus advice to provide transportation. For public transport, please check out this link. http://www.mmu.edu.my/index.php?req=90

If you didn’t find any MSP in your campus, please contact stpun@mystudentpartners.com to get your Dreamspark Activation Code. You will need to supply some information to prove that you are a legitimate student.
