Event Details

Orion Explorer summer science camp is a week-long learning experience built around the exhibits and activities of the science center  offered during the week of  July 12-16, 2010. Cost is $120 for a week-long camp. Kids arrive from 8:45 to 9:00 AM each morning and get picked up from 4:00 to 4:15 each afternoon. Be sure to pack a lunch and dress appropriately for outdoor activity. Registration is due by June 21, 2010. Our camp is laid out as follows:

Monday: Be a paleontologist and study fossils. Learn about dinosaurs. Study how skeletons work and their similarities and differences. Then make your very own fossil souvenir and wooden dinosaur model.

Tuesday: Learn the skills of a naturalist. Go on safari, hunt bugs, and learn about trees and plants. Cast footprints of familiar Missouri mammals.

Wednesday: Study human civilization through the eyes of an archaeologist. Learn the mysteries of mud, assemble pottery shards, paint like an Indian, and work with stone age tools.

Thursday: It's experiment day! Learn about the scientific method...making predictions, performing tests, and using test results to adjust your theory.

Friday: Journey to the stars during our space science/ physics session. Learn about stars and planets and enjoy structure building and rocket making.
