Description

This workshop will provide an overview of post traumatic stress disorder while covering the history of ptsd and other background details about the disorder. Information will be provided to help participants understand the definition of ptsd and how a diagnosis of post traumatic stress disorder is made. Several treatments typically used for ptsd will be discussed. Explanations of related problems that people with ptsd often encounter will also be provided. Descriptions will be given about the possible impact of ptsd on an individual's functioning, both personally and in relationships.  

 

Learning Objectives

After attending this workshop participants will be able to:

  • Describe the history of PTSD
  • Define PTSD and understand how a diagnosis of PTSD is made
  • List the various treatments for PTSD
  • Recognize the related problems often associated with PTSD
  • Describe the impact of PTSD on individuals' functioning and on relationships

Presented by

Teresa McArthur Scher, LCSW, MPH, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Certified Traumatologist who has been providing services in the Tampa Bay Area since 2001. She has provided services as a clinician for both Family Service Association of Greater Tampa, Inc. and Centre for Women, as a private practitioner, and currently as a clinician at the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital, Trauma Recovery Program's PTSD Clinic. Teresa obtained a Master of Social Work and Master of Public Health from the University of South Florida. She obtained the certification in Traumatology through Charles Figley, Ph.D.'s Traumatology Institute, now the Academy of Traumatology.
