Big Data and Bigger Data Science

Thursday, October 18th from 7:00 - 8:00 pm

Keen's team of founders, early employees and API experts

This class is in preparation for the ReRoute/SF hackathon happening at the Hattery on Oct. 19-21st.

From browsers to mobile applications and from cars to printers, we live in an age of an internet of things. Every access point presents an opportunity to learn a great deal about what users want. Successful companies will require flexible and extensible technology as well as resident data scientists to make the most of this connected world. This class is both a primer on big data data science and the technology that will support it.

Student Takeaways:

Folks will leave the class with an appreciation for how developers and business stakeholders can leverage user analytics in building and optimizing mobile applications. Students will also get early access to Keen's analytics platform, as well as a tutorial on the service.

Level & Prerequisites:

Beginner. The class is an introduction to data science and how a wise integration can drive dollars and customer experience. The July 2011 New Yorker article, “Looking for Someone”, is a fun primer on data science. It’ll help set the mood.

Required class materials / software:

A laptop and curiosity. We’ll be using Keen’s cloud-based platform to run through some exercises on a provided data set. We'll also talk quickly about feeding new data into the system, in case we have any experienced developers.

Instructor bio:

Keen makes a kickass set of APIs that let mobile app developers collect, analyze, and visualize data. They are also all about the team. A handful of the founders and early employees will be onsite to teach and support. Professional backgrounds include Google, Salesforce.com, iFixIt, Accenture, and Amazon. Apparel choices will range from pressed shirts to skinny jeans.

Offered in partnership with the  Hattery logo
