Earn Three Hours of Continuing Education Credit!

This three-hour continuing education workshop provides participants with an overview of topics related to the ethical provision of mental health services.  Topics selected for discussion reflect the recent changes to the American Counseling Association’s Code of Ethics, but are important topics for many mental health professionals.  Topics include revised standards related to confidentiality, romantic and sexual interactions, dual relationships, end-of-life care for terminally ill clients, cultural sensitivity, diagnosis, interventions, practice termination, technology, and deceased clients.  In response to participant feedback from prior ethics workshops, there will be several opportunities for collaborative case consultation.  Participants are encouraged to bring examples from their practices that are related to the topics listed.

Learning Objectives
This workshop provides an opportunity for participants to:
1. Summarize
the recent changes to the American Counseling Association’s Code of Ethics

2. Identify ethical problems and solutions related to
ACA Code of Ethics changes
3. Identify changes to the ACA Code of Ethics that they are most at-risk of violating
4. Integrate changes to the ACA Code of Ethics into current their current practices

5. Collaborate with other professionals to address challenges to ethical practice

Who Can Benefit?
This workshop is designed to meet the professional development needs of anyone working in the mental health field.  In addition to licensed professionals, residents, interns, students, case-managers, paraprofessionals and other support staff may find the workshop content beneficial.

Continuing Education Credits
Three (3) Continuing Education Credits / Contact Hours will be awarded by the Germanna Community College Center for Workforce and Community Education for successful completion of the course.
