Widening Horizons

Nonsense on international stilts?

The overall theme of the lectures is that, to an extent undreamed of in Miss Hamlyn's day, British judges now find themselves taking notice of laws the provenance of which is not national and British. In the first lecture Lord Bingham will consider the growing influence of comparative law, discussing some instances in which this has helped to guide British judges towards a solution. In the second lecture he will consider the part played by our courts in this country in interpreting and applying international law. In the third lecture Lord Bingham will consider the relatively recent, but now very important, international law of human rights.
